Dr. Shapiro Becomes a Fellow of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture

    Dr. Dein Shapiro MD of Branchburg, New Jersey became a Fellow of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture (AAMA) at the Academy's Annual Symposium in Chicago, April 2004. The Academy is the national organization for medical doctors who do acupuncture in the United States. Fellow is the highest honor it awards to members who have distinguished themselves in the field of Medical Acupuncture. To become a Fellow, members must be Board Certified by the American Board of Medical Acupuncture and have a minimum of five years of clinical acupuncture experience. In addition, a Fellow must contribute to the field of the Medical Acupuncture by teaching or by publishing original articles in the field. A Fellow must also participate in the work of the AAMA which educates physicians about Medical Acupuncture and promotes the integration of Medical Acupuncture into contemporary medical practice.

   Dr. Shapiro, who has been a Board Certified Family Physician since 1979,  has eight  years of clinical experience in Medical Acupuncture and was Board Certified in Medical Acupuncture in 2001. He has published three original articles on acupuncture, two of which describe new techniques using a piezo-electric device to stimulate acupuncture points. He has given a number of lectures and workshops to introduce other physicians to Medical Acupuncture and its uses. He has taught doctors and student doctors about Medical Acupuncture through academic programs sponsored by the  Temple University School of Medicine, the Hunterdon Medical Center and its Family Practice Residency Program, and through a preceptor program with the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine. Dr. Shapiro has served as Treasurer for the New Jersey Chapter of the AAMA since April of 2002. He also was a member of the Symposium Committee of the AAMA that designed the academic program for the 2004 national Symposium.

   Dr.Shapiro  has maintained a private medical office in Branchburg, New Jersey since 1981. He  is a staff physician at the Hunterdon Medical Center and a member of Hunterdon Healthcare Partners. Dr. Shapiro is  a Clinical Associate Professor of Family Practice for the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and has taught clinical Family Practice to medical students for many years.  He is currently Board Certified in both Family Practice and Medical Acupuncture, and he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians as well as the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture.
