DR. SHAPIRO TALKS TO SENIORS ABOUT ACUPUNCTURE

Arbor Glenn held its "Senior Health and Fitness Fair" on October 25th, 2000.  Dr. Dein Shapiro, Family Practice Physician with offices in Branchburg New Jersey, gave a talk entitled "Acupuncture and Medicine in the 21st Century." Dr. Shapiro also practices Medical Acupuncture. His talk focused on how acupuncture will be integrated  into the mainstream of medicine over the next few years.  Acupuncture was endorsed by the National Institutes of Health in 1997 for a variety of conditions and is the subject of much active research.  The most common conditions for which seniors seek acupuncture are pain problems: back and neck pain, arthritis, diabetic neuropathy, and the neuropathy following shingles. Acupuncture is also useful for cancer related pain as well as chemotherapy and radiation therapy side effects.  It is especially useful for nausea.  Dr. Shapiro is Board Certified in Family Practice since 1979.  Shortly, he will be one of the first physicians in New Jersey to be Board Certified in Medical Acupuncture.
