Hunterdon Medical Center
Flemington, NJ
May 7th, 2003
Dr. Shapiro presented Grand Rounds at the Hunterdon Medical Center to educate the staff about medical acupuncture. He wanted to show the medical staff the types of patients he sees in a typical month and his clinical results. Dr. Shapiro made short case presentations of all thirty patients seen in February of 2003 and summarized the clinical results:
1. The pain patients averaged 70% relief with 5.7 treatments over 2.5 months.
2. Medical patients averaged 44% relief with 3.8 treatments over 2.5 months.
3. Chronic fatigue patients averaged 32% relief with 5 treatments over 1.3 months.
4. Psychiatric patients averaged 30% relief with 3.3 treatments over 1.8 months.
Dr. Shapiro emphasized that this was a challenging group of patients with many longstanding chronic problems.
He concluded with a presentation interesting research findings from the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture National Symposium in April of 2003. He also highlighted his own research findings which were presented at the Symposium.
